Stroll down from Chesterfield town centre to Brimington Road and look out for the sign that will take you to the canal towpath. Home to a variety of wildlife including swans and mallards, the canal is popular with fishermen while the towpath attracts walkers and cyclists. The canal stretches 46 miles from Chesterfield to the River Trent. Chesterfield Canal Trust has set itself a challenge to restore the remaining nine miles of the waterway by 2027 to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the canal opening. Photo: jason chadwick
