Review: The Pitz air classic hits

Opening their gig at the Three Horseshoes, Clay Cross, with guns a-blazing, this popular unit knocked out classic favourites by the

likes of The Stones and The Beatles with frontmen Paul Hopkinson and Rob Lee sharing vocal duties and acoustic lead breaks with effortless ease.

As with every band the rhythm section held things together nicely as four-string merchant Mick Twelves played like he’d been at it since his nappy days, even taking vocal duties on several tunes. Sadly the first attempt was marred by sound issues but Brown Eyed Girl sounded great.

And as for the sticks man Nip Heeley, I don’t think I’ve seen a more basic drum set-up, yet he skilfully filled the sound with precision.

Basically, The Pitz are a straight ahead band with no tapes or computers so what you see is what you get.

With tune following tune I loved the Queen hit Crazy Little Thing Called Love which was delivered effortlessly and finished with a bang, taking us directly into Out Of Time, after which it was intermission time.

Opening act two with Sweet Dreams was a smart move as this really works well forThe Pitz, as does the Dire Straits hit Money For Nothing, followed by the slower paced Stand By Me.

More tunes followed by T. Rex, and a cracking version of Brown Sugar by The Rolling Stones, much to the enjoyment of the happy clapping Clay Cross crowd.

If The Pitz are new to you and you’re unsure as to a viewing then just take the bull by the horns, dive in, and enjoy.
