The headquarters of the 6th Darley Dale Scout Group were packed in October 1972 for a presentation for a retiring Akela.

The highlight of the evening was the award for Edith Taylor in appreciation of 20 years of service to the Darley Dale pack.

Derek Collins, the group leader, presented Mrs Taylor with a silver salver.

He was joined by Collins Cup instructor Elaine Creasey, the new Akela Pam Creasey and assistant scout leader Philip Creasey.

Mrs Taylor, who had recently retired from being group leader after 20 years, was also presented with a bouquet of flowers.

After the presentation she in turn presented many proficiency badges gained by the cubs.

Slides and films were shown of the pack’s holiday near Lancaster and of the troop’s camp at Great Windsor Park.

If you have any copies of the Matlock Mercury from years gone by that you’d like to see featured in Memory Lane, why not drop them in at the office?
