The Flagg Challenge 50-miler sets off from the Chesterfield-based hospice from 9am, on Sunday, July 26, with views including Chatsworth House and climbs through Sheldon, Birchover and Stanton-in-the-Peak. An alternate 25-mile ride sets off from the hospice to Ashford-in-the-Water and back.

Organisers have put together a training plan and diet on the run-down to the ride which will put riders in the best shape. Riders are being advised to do two 15mile rides a week or three 10miles rides a week and where possible include one run a week and some gentle weight training.

During each week, a good idea would be to introduce a hill climb to prepare for the Flagg Challenge’s climbs. Riders are advised to eat protein-based foods including chicken as well as carbohydrates including pasta and as many vegetables and fruit as possible while swapping puddings for health bars.

Entrants receive sponsor forms, fundraising tips, maps and raffle tickets to sell for a JE James Haibike Q Race SL road bike prize after paying a £22 fee.
