The centre of Matlock appears to have become an inland sea at the point this picture was taken.
Snapped in Crown Square in May 1966, the photograph shows one of the worst cases of flooding the town has ever endured as the River Derwent broke its banks.
Crowds of people teeter around the edges of the water, which has swamped the usually heaving thoroughfare.
It does leave you to question the mentality of the bus driver who decided to attempt to cross the square, as the water clearly shows the water lapping the very top of the large vehicles tyres.
Did the driver realise he had made a mistake half way across and abandon the soggy bus, or did they make it?
