Bonsall Football Club might have needed to buy a bigger trophy cabinet after their amazing season in 1953-4.

Winners of the Rowsley League championship, the Horace Holmes Cup and Trustees Shield, they were only beaten in the final of the DFA Medals by Manchester United’s ‘nursery’ team, High Lees.

Played at Whaley Bridge, four bus loads of supporters saw them go down 2-1.

Herbert Loxley, Bonsall’s Notts County player, was guest of honour at the club dinner when he presented the trophies to captain Henry Rickards.
