TV soap stars in Chaplin musical

Coronation Street star Steven Arnold will play Charlie Chaplin's brother in a heart-warming and hilarious musical about the first true icon of British cinema.

Steven, who is best known as butcher’s son Ashley Peacock in the ITV soap, is joined by Nicole Faraday, who played maneater Veronica in Emmerdale and Snowball Merriman in Bad Girls, Helena Gullan (from the show Once in London’s West End) and a cast of six West End actor-musicians who play more than 20 instruments live onstage!

The powerful tale, entitled Chaplin - The Charlie Chaplin Story, weaves through Charlie’s modest and troubled childhood growing up in the gutters of Victorian London.

It focuses on Chaplin’s relationship with his mother who, after being admitted to an asylum, was forced to put her sons into the workhouse. Chaplin’s early showbiz career on the Vaudeville stage are documented as are the primitive years of early Hollywood.

The production finishes with Chaplin discovering his big breakthrough film which made him a household name - The Kid.

Bryan Hodgson, who has extensive theatre credits to his name, will play the lead role.

Chaplin will be presented at Buxton Opera House on Sunday, June 12, at 7.30pm.
