The Derbyshire attraction closed in 2006 following financial struggles.

The petition was started earlier this year by Declan Salmon who used to go the theme park as a child.

He said: “Once we get 10,000 signatures I’ll send it to Derbyshire County Council.

“The sooner people sign, the better chance we have of getting the American Adventure back.

“If the American Adventure does reopen somewhere else in the future, it will attract so many visitors and it will be a huge boost to the community and for the UK not just Derbyshire.”

He suggested that new attractions could be built as well as new roller coasters, food outlets, gift shops and pubs.

Little remains at the site of the former theme park in Shipley.

The land has been earmarked for 300 new homes.
