A FORMER taxi driver is warning motorists about being caught out by privately-run car parks after he was hit with a £60 fine.
Melvyn Haynes of Rutland Avenue, Matlock, was handed a ticket at the car park in Mansfield operated by Excel Parking Services Ltd.
Although the sign says the first 30 minutes are free, in smaller letters it insists a ticket is still required.
Mr Haynes, 55, had taken a sick friend shopping and returned just minutes later to find the levy struck on the car.
He said: “They should make it more clear, how on earth they get away with it I don’t know.
“It’s all about making money.
“Everyone I’ve spoken to has said not to pay it.”
