It’s been 50 years of wedded bliss for one Matlock couple.
Brian and Maureen Shakespeare, of Cavendish Road, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Friday, July 22.
Brian, 74, said: “We first met at a wedding when my uncle married Maureen’s auntie. I was seven and Maureen was five, I was pageboy and she was a bridesmaid.
“On Maureen’s 21st birthday I provided transport for this uncle and aunt to her party. We got on well and started courting, marrying 14 months later.”
Maureen, 72, said: “Marriage is all about give and take. We still get on very well, it’s been a lovely 50 years.”
Brian is a retired electrician and Maureen a retired music teacher. The couple have two grown up daughters, Sally, 44, and Emma, 40.
They enjoy going to car shows with their classic cars.
