Accused robber appears in court

A man who has been charged in connection with an attempted robbery and a forced entry in Ripley has had his case adjourned until next month.

Derbyshire Constabulary stated that a 26-year-old woman was walking along Church Street in the town centre about 10.15pm, on Friday, April 4, when a man allegedly grabbed her and attempted to steal her mobile phone. Police said a member of the public intervened and the alleged offender ran away.

At around 11pm on the same day, a man knocked on the door of a house on Padley Close, according to police, and as the occupant opened the door the man allegedly tried to force his way in.

Scott Riddell, 31, of Nottingham Road, Alfreton, was charged with attempted robbery and the use of violence to secure entry to premises.

Mr Riddell appeared at Derby Crown Court on April 22 and his case was adjourned until May 15 to consider reports.
