Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard during a trial on Tuesday how Leopold Wrobel, 56, of Ravensdale Close, Inkersall, tormented Scott Vickers by repeatedly driving by his work at Staveley Market Place and making obscene hand gestures.

Mr Vickers said Wrobel had also made hand gestures when their cars passed and the defendant followed him to his new home where he turned into a garage and made further gestures.

Prosecuting solicitor Michael Treharne said: “Over a period the defendant has driven past the market place and made gestures through the window with a w****r sign or by sticking up a ‘V’ sign. Mr Vickers was also followed by the defendant while driving his wife and daughter. Initially, the cars were travelling in opposite directions but the defendant turned and was following and gesturing.

“Wrobel followed him to his home and turns round in front of a garage and as he goes back to the main road he repeats this hand gesture.”

Wrobel, who denied breaching his restraining order, claimed he drives past the market because he shops in Staveley and denied making any gestures. He claimed he did not make gestures at Mr Vickers when he was driving and did not follow him.

However, magistrates found Wrobel guilty of breaching his order after the incidents between August 2012 and June 2013. His case was adjourned until May 20 for sentencing. The court heard Wrobel had previously been jailed in 2009 for breaching an ASBO and for harassment against neighbours in Wingerworth. Wrobel also had a two-year restraining order imposed in 2012 to protect Mr Vickers and his parents.
