AN INTREPID adventurer who lost a leg during treatment for cancer is set to take on a 704km Antarctic trek to raise money for the mental health charity Mencap.
Marc Woods, of training company Sladen Woods, at Hathersage, joined team members at Cape Town, South Africa, this week, to acclimatise before the Extreme World Races challenge which marks the 100th anniversary of Captain Scott’s South Pole expedition.
Marc said: “I’m not the fastest skier especially when dragging 70kgs but I can ski straight and when faced with a landscape with no discernible features this is a very useful attribute.”
Former paralympian swimmer Marc lost a leg to cancer when he was 17-years-old and has had to adapt to a specially designed artificial leg.
