A ONE-OFF weekend train service to London from the Derbyshire Dales could become a regular service after being described as a “tremendous success”.
Saturday’s “Thames-Ecclesbourne Express” service departed from Wirksworth at 7.15am, before a specially-prepared East Midlands Trains express service to London made an extra stop at Duffield to collect nearly 40 passengers from Wirksworth and Idridgehay. Passengers enjoyed a full day in the capital, before returning to Wirksworth by 9pm.
It was a joint venture by the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway and East Midlands Trains to demonstrate the relationship between the two companies.
A spokesman said: “It was a tremendous success and should provide the basis for more excursions to the capital and elsewhere in the future.”
