The competition this

categories will receive Co-operative vouchers worth £60 for first place, £30 for second and £10 for third place.

The vouchers may be spent on gardening equipment or any other goods at the Ripley branch of the superstore.

Councillor Steve Freeborn said he was disappointed by the number of entries last year but had high expectations this time.

“We have had such good weather for growing that there is no excuse for people not to participate. I hope that people are going to really go for it this year and produce some blooming results,” he said.

The competition is open to all residents in Ripley and the surrounding areas, including Ambergate, Bullbridge, Hammersmith, Heage, Lower Hartshay, Marehay, Nether Heage, Ridgeway, Sawmills, Street Lane, Hartshay and Waingroves.

The competition will be judged by the Mayor Alwyn Bridge and a C0-op representative. Judging will take place on July 12.

The event is sponsored by the Central England Co-operative Society and entry is free. The closing date for applications is June 30.
