LADY MANNERS SCHOOL pupil Ally le Carpentier is back from a volunteering trip to Vietnam, but the hard work is only beginning.

Fifteen-year-old Ally, from Flagg, travelled to the town of Tam Ky in July to help underprivileged and disabled children living in orphanages.

But mum Jayne says Ally still thinks of the children, whom she often took out for ice cream and even escalator rides. “It was painful for her to leave them and she has promised herself she will go back,” Jayne said. The volunteers, who travelled with the Global Volunteer Network, also made wall hangings, bought mosquito nets and taught English.

Now Ally is organising a fundraiser between 8am and 4pm on Sunday October 23 at Ivy House Farm in Flagg.

She will cook Vietnamese dishes and collect donations of clothes and toys, and is currently arranging stalls and music.

Ally will also hold a stall at Bakewell market on December 19.
