Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard how Jon Greaves, 31, of Lilac Grove, South Normanton, repeatedly threw stones and cracked and chipped the window at the home of a neighbour.

Becky Allsop, prosecuting, explained Greaves had fallen out with the woman because he claimed she had got involved in an argument involving other neighbours when it had been none of her business.

The complainant was woken by several loud bangs, according to Mrs Allsop, and was woken again in the early hours by a really loud bang and saw the defendant.

Mrs Allsop said: “Police found a deep chip in the glass surrounded by small chips. Greaves stated he felt the complainant had got involved in an argument involving other neighbours and it had been none of her business.”

Greaves pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage after the incident in June.

Defence solicitor Steve Brint said the woman had called him Jonathan to wind him up and had wrongly accused him of an incident that had been investigated by the housing department.

Mr Brint added Greaves, who suffers with depression, is remorseful. Magistrates sentenced Greaves to a six month conditional discharge and warned that he would be re-sentenced if he committed further offences. He was ordered to pay £200 compensation, a £15 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
