Anthony Gell School celebrates excellent A-Level results

Bucking the national trend in 2016, A-Level outcomes at AGS have improved this year. The school has been able to post its highest ever A-Level average points score per exam entry.

The percentage of students attaining the highest grades was a stand-out feature of this year’s results at AGS with 56 per cent of grades being awarded at A*- B. Students achieved well in all subject areas and exceptionally well in Mathematics, Art and PE, where students made outstanding progress and achieved results that would place them firmly in the top 10 per cent of schools nationally.

Staff and governors of the fully inclusive Sixth Form at AGS are also very proud of the fact that there was a 100 per cent pass rate at A-Level in 2016. In addition to this, the school has achieved its highest ever set of results in vocational subjects such as ICT. Students studying the vocational subjects at AGS achieved, on average, one grade better in these subjects in 2016 than those gained in 2015.

The excellent grades achieved by sixth formers at AGS means that most will be moving on to study in many of the country’s best universities; whilst others have chosen to begin excellent apprenticeships with a range of outstanding companies. Students have been successful in gaining places in universities including the likes of Manchester and Bristol whilst others have chosen to specialise in establishments such as Nottingham University’s School of Agriculture and the Royal Academy of Music.

Headteacher Malcolm Kelly was very pleased with the results and praised staff and students for the hard work that led to the success.

He said: “Our students have shown such a range of qualities and abilities that we are not surprised to see them undertaking training in such a wide variety of areas; from setting out to acquire a commercial pilot’s licence to studying to become a nurse specialising in mental health to working as a cameraman with Paramount Pictures in Los Angeles.

“Staff are very impressed by how much progress these young people have made since joining us and how each student has met every challenge with such resolution. We look forward to hearing from them regularly in the future and watching their lives and careers go from strength to strength.”
