Anthony Gell School students celebrate some of the school’s highest ever GCSE results

Sixty-eight per cent of students gained five higher grades including English and maths, while an overall 26 per cent of grades were As and A*s. Seventy-eight per cent of grades are A* to Cs and 80 per cent of students gained a higher level pass in maths.

Retiring headteacher David Baker said: “These results show just how much our students can achieve.

“They have worked really hard and approached their work with a determination to do their very best”.

Mr Baker also thanked all the staff for their hard work and dedication and parents and governors for the support they have given to the young people and the school.

He added: “This is my final set of exam results as I am retiring from Anthony Gell School this summer. It has been a pleasure to work with these young people and I wish them the very best of luck for the future”.

And new headteacher Malcom Kelly, who takes over in September, said: “I am very much looking forward to leading Anthony Gell School and these excellent GCSE results and the A-levels last week are an excellent start to my time as head.

“I am really pleased to be coming to work at the school and look forward to getting to know everyone in the coming weeks.

“I congratulate all the students on their results and know that many will be back in the sixth form in September.”
