Appeal after damage at Hope Valley play area

Police are appealing for information after vandals wrecked tables at a play area in the Hope Valley.

Offenders ripped up the wooden boards on the top of picnic tables at a site off Castleton Road, in Hope.

The damage left nails exposed and, due to their placement in a children’s play area, the tables will need to be removed and replaced.

Officers from Hope Valley Safer Neighbourhood Team will be increasing patrols in the area to catch any offenders and are appealing for information.

They are also urging members of the public to report crime or suspicious activity straight away.

PCSO Steven Rogers, from the team, said: “There have been some issues with anti-social behaviour and criminal damage in the area and we will be increasing our patrols to find those responsible.

“It might seem harmless to the people causing the damage but it affects many other people, including families, and we will be working to stop that from happening.”

The damage to the tables took place between 6pm on Tuesday, August 13 and 2pm on Wednesday, August 14.
