Archives used to research war

Archivists have helped bring to life the tragic stories of local men and women whose names appear on Matlock’s War Memorial.

Local historian Keith Taylor researched and wrote ‘The Matlocks and District in the Second World War’ with help and support from Derbyshire County Council’s Record Office and Local Studies Library.

He said: “The help provided by Derbyshire County Council was invaluable. Staff at the Record Office and Local Studies Library were extremely knowledgeable and always willing to go that extra mile to help me with my research. I had unlimited use of newspaper archives, parish records, local directories and log books as well as access to the internet for tracing ancestry and war records.”

Copies of the book are available on loan at all Derbyshire County Council libraries.

Alternatively, it is published by Bakewell–based County Books and on sale on Amazon.
