Author calls for the Matlock to Buxton railway reopening
In his new book, The Great Railway Conspiracy, author David Henshaw claims that reopening the railway would bring huge benefits to the area.
David said: “Reconnecting the rail link between Matlock with Buxton would provide a long distance route for passengers and freight, it would enable a new commuter route and carry visitors right into the Peak District National Park – taking pressure off congested roads.”

Hide AdThe book documents the many railway closures which a report by Dr Beeching in 1963 – of which the Matlock to Buxton line was one.
The book also documents that many lines closed by Beeching – from the Scottish borders to Cornwall – have reopened with enormous success.
“I believe there are up to thirty railway lines which could be successfully reopened in Britain,” said David.
