A Wirksworth writer has gained a prestigious award in a national theatre writing competition.
Graham Sellors’ short play Daughter of The Moon won the Best Production Award, voted for by the audience, at the Ovation Theatre Awards held at the Square Chapel Arts Centre in Halifax.
The awards provide a platform for writers to showcase their work and receive feedback from industry professionals and theatre goers.
Graham’s play, which looks at a relationship in a retirement home founded on a mutual love of poetry remembered from school, was also highly commended in the new writing category.
Plays had to be limited to around seven minutes in length and have no more than four characters.
Graham, now retired, said he was pleased to fly the flag for the bus pass generation.
He added: “It was a surprise and delight.”
His play Barely Phyllis, which tells the story of variety artist Phyllis Dixey, had a four night run at The Pomegranate in 2009.
