Bakewell Market closed due to high winds

Bakewell Market has been cancelled today due to high winds.

Derbyshire Dales District Council took the precaution as winds of up to 50mph have been predicted to gust through the county throughout the day.

A spokesman for the authority said: “Unfortunately, due to high winds and safety concerns for traders and the public, Derbyshire Dales District Council has been forced to cancel today’s scheduled stall market in Bakewell. Around 20 traders had turned up for business when we made the decision this morning.

“The wind was lifting off the boards that sit across the stalls, and we had no option but to cancel, as was the case with our scheduled market in Ashbourne on Saturday.”
