A Post Office branch in Bakewell is to temporarily close.

The branch located at Spar, Unit 1, Granby Croft, Granby Road, Bakewell, will be shutting its doors on November 19.

A letter signed by Dinesh Bhandari, networks operations manager at the Post Office, says: “I am writing to inform you that, regrettably, following the withdrawal of the premises for Post Office use the above branch will be closing temporarily on 19 November 2016.

“The provision of a Post Office service to our customers in the local community is important to us, and we will work hard to restore service in the area as soon as possible.

“We would welcome any applicants from potential retail partners interested in running Bakewell Post Office on our behalf.

“I would like to apologise for the inconvenience the temporary closure may cause. We hope that our customers will continue to use the Post Office.”

Stewert Waldron, AF Blakemore Post Office controller in relation to SPAR Bakewell, said: “Blakemore Retail relinquished the franchise for Bakewell Post Office over six years ago and since then, it has been operated by a ‘third party’ company called Zubes International.

“When we agreed to this temporary solution, we never envisaged that, Post Office Limited (POL) would be unable to find a permanent successor in this timeframe. Whilst we have been more than flexible with POL regarding the retention of the PO operation, we are unable to accommodate the facility any longer. We can only apologise for the inconvenience this will cause customers and hope that POL will be able to find a new post office operator quickly.”
