The spectacular promises to boast an exciting mix of family–themed attractions and agricultural delights next Wednesday and Thursday.

This year’s main attractions will be Titan the Robot, an eight foot intergalactic superstar who is bound to put a smile on everyone’s face, and spectacular motorcycle displays from the James Dylan’s Stuntworld group.

And the much–loved traditional extravaganza – which will be held at Bakewell Showground – guarantees to wow crowds with the usual animal contests, cookery demonstrations, horticultural exhibits, craft displays and vintage and classic cars.

It will be an especially important year for the food and farming section of the event as it will be celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Bakewell Show – known as The Little Royal – has been a highlight of the agricultural calendar since 1819 and has gone from strength to strength every year.

It has battled through a number of crises, from facing financial ruin in 1909 when the Dukes of Rutland and Devonshire agreed to underwrite the event “for the foreseeable future” to the most recent foot–and–mouth outbreak during which it was one of the few shows to go ahead – without animals.

Show manager Janet Bailey has high hopes for the success of this year’s event.

She said: “This spate of fine weather has made such a difference to the ground.

“Our visitors will find it much drier under foot.”

As in the past couple of years, there will be a dedicated equestrian day on August 5 – the day before the official show.

New this year is the introduction of credit card sales at two of the main entrances – the Riverside and the Dog Show gates

Janet continued: “Electronic tickets bought on the website are increasing each year and this seemed the next logical step.

“And of course children are free. We are very much looking forward to welcoming all our visitors for three days of fun in the sun.”
