Matlock Brass Band took second place at Bolsover Festival of Brass’ 3rd Section for a 20-minute performance which included John Williams’ Olympic Fanfare and Theme.
The band continued with Anything Goes, The Nightingale performed by Jane Baldwin, Just a Closer Walk and finished with John Miles’ Music.
A spokesman said adjudicator Colin Hardy noted the band’s controlled and balanced playing and said he had enjoyed the performance, awarding the band 91 points and the Neville Brothers trophy.
He added: “Musical Director Geoff Hawley and his band were delighted with the result and will be hoping for further success at the Leicester contest on 20th November 2016.”
Around 14,500 people tuned in to watch the event, hosted by Bolsover District Council, via a live web broadcast.
In what was a marathon day lasting nearly 12 hours the competition consisted of six sections – Unregistered, 4th ,3rd ,2nd , 1st and Championship Sections – with an amazing 45 bands taking part.
Each band had to perform a twenty-minute concert programme which included a stand-up soloist.
The 13 hours of live broadcasting started at 8.30am, eventually reaching 23 countries across the world, including USA, Vietnam, Singapore, Poland, Italy, Australia, Norway, New Zealand, France and Spain, as well as over 220 towns and cities within the UK.
