Plans for a new Aldi store in Belper have been approved this week.
Amber Valley Borough Council approved plans for the new store at a meeting on Monday night.
The new store will be built on the site adjacent to the current B&M store, in Chapel Street.
It is hoped that around 40 permanent full and part-time jobs will be created in the community.
Belper Town Mayor Dan Booth said: “This approval is very positive.
“The public seem to support this new store. It will improve the look of the site and will also create new jobs.”
He added: “Like a lot of other Belper residents, if you want to go to Aldi you have to go out of town, so having one in town will be great.
“It will also create competition with other supermarkets in town, which can’t be a bad thing.”
An Aldi spokesperson said they were delighted the application had been approved.
They said: “We are committed to investing in the town... this site is ideally located for us to increase our offering to the people of Belper.”
