A WIRKSWORTH woman has won a place at the prestigious Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.

Beth Nash, 20, is a graduate of Derby LIVE Youth Theatre and is to attend one of the UK’s top and most prestigious drama schools which, over the years, has been the training ground for acting talents including Jeremy Irons, Pete Postlethwaite, Joseph Mawle and Greta Scacchi.

Beth auditioned for Derby LIVE Youth Theatre in 2009 and, during her time with them, starred in some high profile and leading roles including Florence Nightingale in A Lady with a Lamp.

In addition to her youth theatre roles, Beth also appeared in Derby LIVE professional produced theatre productions. Only last weekend, she was among the cast of the Oddsocks theatre company’s production of Macbeth at Carnfield Hall.

Pete Meakin, artistic producer of Derby LIVE, said: “From the instant I saw Beth audition for the Derby LIVE Youth Theatre production of Nicholas Nickleby, I could see that, potentially, she was a rare talent. Since then we have seen her develop in leaps and bounds and you can easily see why a top drama school would be interested in taking her on.”

Beth Nash added: “I am over the moon to be offered a place on the Bristol Old Vic professional acting course – it really is a dream come true!

“The experience and opportunities I have gained from working within the Derby LIVE Youth Theatre, professional shows and work experience has been absolutely invaluable.

“I’m very excited to be starting my training.”
