A Dales walking scheme has taken a huge step forward thanks to a national accreditation.
The Derbyshire Dales District Councils Walk for Health scheme is now officially recognised for the benefits it offers to the community.
Howard Griffith, Walking for Health officer, said: “The national accreditation for our programme is great news and a tribute to the many dedicated volunteers who help out as walk leaders.”
The first walking group was started by the District Council from its Agricultural Business Centre in Bakewell in 2004.
Now around 2,900 participants enjoy free walks across the Derbyshire Dales every weekday.
Mr Griffith said: “In addition to the health benefits, the walks are great for social interaction”
However, new walkers and walk leaders are urgently needed.
