Bin collections over Christmas

Usual waste and recycling collection days will change for Derbyshire Dales residents over the Christmas and New Year bank holidays.

Homes where the usual collection day is a Friday will get their two collections at Christmas and New Year – December 27 and January 3 – one day later than usual.

The situation is slightly more complicated for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday rounds, where collections are earlier than usual at Christmas.

The collections on December 29, December 30 and New Year’s Eve are unaffected –while the New Year week collection for the usual Thursday round is on January 2 rather than New Year’s Day and the usual Friday collection is January 3.

All the collection dates and a downloadable calendar are available online via Derbyshire Dales District Council’s postcode search at www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/waste

Dales residents are also urged to sign up for the council’s free e-newsletter at www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/enewsreg to be kept updated about any winter weather service disruptions.

Councillor Steve Bull, chairman of Derbyshire Dales District Council’s environment committee, said: “We’re using all available channels to get our message out about festive changes to the bin collection timetable with a promotional campaign including posters on parish notice boards, regular prompts on Facebook and Twitter and our website and a reminder in our recent dalesMATTERS publication, which went out to all 33,000 homes across the area.”
