We may be in the depths of winter- but nobody has told a solitary rose blossoming at a Matlock village school.
Staff and pupils at Middleton-by-Wirksworth Primary have been stunned that the yellow flower has come out, six months before it should.
Headteacher Sarah I’Anson said: “On the news they have been saying how mild it has been this winter but we are very special in terms of weather- it’s always severe but the rose has been sheltered by the village hall building next door.
“We had some snow and ice before Christmas but it’s somehow come through it.
“I have never seen anything like this, it’s meant come out in June!”
