Bonsall: Plucky hens race for glory

Feathers were ruffled at the World Hen Racing Championship at the Barley Mow, Bonsall, as competitors were found to be falling fowl of gamesmanship in their bid for victory.

Contestants banged tins and gardens folks to encourage their birds over the line.

Save The NHS, an ex–battery hen owned by Matlock councillor Andrew Botham (pictured above), set a new record of 3.8 seconds, while the overall winner was Road Runner.
