Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard how Roderick Mandrell, 59, of Moorfield, Matlock, was found by his partner drinking in a park when he assaulted her.

Prosecuting solicitor Sarah Haslam said at a previous hearing Mandrell had sworn at his partner at home and she later found him in the park. As the defendant followed her through the park, according to Ms Haslam, he was shouting and swearing and pushed her.

Mandrell pleaded guilty to assault after the incident in May. The court heard how Mandrell was sorry. Magistrates sentenced Mandrell on June 24 to a 12-month community order with 80 hours of unpaid work. He was also ordered to pay a £60 victim surcharge, £85 costs and a £150 court charge.
