Boozed up driver ran from crash

A drink-driver has been ordered to pay £305 after he fled following a collision in Chesterfield town centre.

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard last Monday how Jake Perry, 20, of Church Street, Pilsley, had just left a party when he was involved in the collision.

Becky Allsop, prosecuting, said officers heard a bang and spotted the collision on Hollywell Street and that Perry had run off. Mrs Allsop said Perry was stopped on Lordsmill Street.

Perry pleaded guilty to drink-driving and failing to stop after a collision involving damage. Denny Lau, defending, said Perry is hard-working and had never been arrested before. Mr Lau added Perry had left a Christmas party because there had been a row and he was on his way to a hotel when the collision happened. Magistrates fined Perry £200 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge. He was disqualified from driving for 20 months.
