A Matlock firm has been chatting to a TV entrepreneur about why its on top when it comes to maternity leave.
Husband and wife team Hayley and Scott Bradshaw, who own Coleman Bradshaw accountancy services, are to appear on Hilary Devey’s new television programme Women at the Top tonight.
The show, which focuses on problems facing women in the workplace, will be aired on BBC HD at 9pm.
The Dragon’s Den star was drawn to the couple’s accountancy business after hearing how they had managed to make a positive outcome from a high number of staff members taking maternity leave during a short space of time.
Scott said: “We have had seven maternity leave periods since we set up seven years ago – including three of our own.”
Hayley continued: “We tend to have a discussion with the lady at the time and they talk about what hours they want to work, whether they want to take the full nine months. We are always flexible.”
The pair explained that since setting up the business, they have been in a period of growth, therefore instead of getting a temporary member of staff to cover when a staff member is on maternity leave, they have been able to take someone on permanently.
“We’ve been able to turn it into a positive,” Scott said.
Hilary came to the couple’s office in Bank Road and interviewed them on camera about their achievements.
“It was weird having a TV star in your office, but she was really nice,” Scott commented.
“She was interested in our business and we even managed to get a few tips from her.”
