A FARM shop in Bakewell is celebrating after being awarded five prestigious accolades.
New Close Farm Shop opened last year, in Granby Road, and has already been stacking up an impressive list of awards.
The family business has picked up two gold awards – for their dry-cured bacon and for their pork sausages from the British Pig Executive – and a further gold award for their bacon in the Savour Your Bacon competition.
Their pork pies and unsmoked bacon have also been presented with silver awards from the British Pig Executive.
Ed Armstrong, who runs the business with his parents Gill and James and brother Tom, said: “It’s the first time we have entered anything like this so it was a pleasant surprise.”
He added: “I think the fact we are a local family selling produce from our own local farm appeals to customers.
“They want to know where their food is coming from and we sell local British produce, with low food miles, which gives them a lot of confidence in us.”
Tom and Ed are the fourth generation of butchers and farmers in the family business, which specialises in dry cured bacon, home made pies and a wide variety of handmade sausages.
