Shopkeepers in Matlock are once again getting in to the seasonal spirit – and brightening up the town with festive window displays.
The annual window dressing competition has been running for over 20 years and helps give the town a boost over the Christmas period.
The competition is hosted by Matlock Business Group and will see eye-catching decorations on show across the town.
Richard Short, of the group and owner of Regent House Tea Rooms on Dale Road, said: “We are hoping businesses make the effort this year as it helps to bring a Christmassy feel to the town.
“I think customers like it and they expect it now.
“A lot of shops do get involved and it is in their advantage as it does encourage more people to the town.”
Mr Short said business bosses could get creative and come up with their own seasonal styles – from traditional windows to sparkling modern designs.
Some windows are already show-casing their festive displays including Matlock Antiques Centre on Dale Road and Regent House Tea Rooms.
Judging will take place next weekend – with two categories; ‘The Best Christmas Themed Window’ and display so they were awarded ‘The Best Christmas Selling Window’.
Last year joint first place was awarded to M&Co clothing shop on Firs Parade, for their glittery display of gold and silver stars, and Matlock Antiques Centre which scooped the accolade for the second year running for the second year running, for their Scandinavian-themed window.
Winners will be presented with a trophy.
