A TRADITIONAL Matlock cafe is reopening on Saturday following a revamp.
Hall Leys Park is set to mark its centenary and Kate Lane, who runs the Cafe in the Park, has given her business a facelift and extension to mark the milestone event.
The six-week project has seen the old cricket pavilion renovated to provide an indoor customer seating area, serving counter and customer toilet with baby changing facility.
Mum-of-two, Kate, used to work in the toy industry before taking over the cafe 11 years ago.
She said: “This year is the park’s 100 year birthday and I felt is was the right time to freshen up the cafe in celebration of this.
“We have opened up the two rooms and now have a very cosy seating and serving area.”
Kate said the cafe was still offering a wide range of home-made cakes and pizzas as well as paninis, ice cream, drinks, snacks and children’s picnic boxes, at reasonable prices.
The refurbishment means the cafe, which previously only opened in the summer, will still be serving throughout the winter months and offering a new range of main meals and specials.
New activities for parents and children are also set to launch at the cafe, with a range of fun including cake decorating and hat making.
Kate said: “We do get a lot of people saying how disappointed they are that we were closed in the winter but because it was such a cold building it was difficult to do that.”
