A busy week's trade at the Bakewell Market

This week's Bakewell Market (April 24), was slightly unusual being trapped between two Bank Holiday weekends, and subsequently particularly busy.

There were 841 Cattle and 1,999 sheep on offer with plenty of interest in all departments.

It was a full house for the store and breeding cattle section with a total of 529 head on offer.

The very large entry had attracted purchasers from as far away as North Yorkshire and Norfolk and what appeared to be most places in-between. Trade was outstanding with steers to £1,330, heifers £1,115, feeding bulls £1,025, cow and calf outfits £1,700 and stock bulls £1,920.
