Buxton Brewery, which owns the Buxton Tap House on George Street, made it onto the Rate Beer list for the second year running.

One of only seven English breweries to make the international list, the brewery, based in Staden Business Park, beat off 16,000 other beer makers worldwide.

It’s not the first time Rate Beer, where ale lovers rate their pints, has praised the Derbyshire brewery.

It also has four beers in the list of England’s 50 best beers: Imperial Black in 16th place, Tsar at 22nd and the brewery’s most popular Axe Edge at 40th.

Owner Geoff Quinn said: “We’re pretty happy. It’s amazing. We only started in 2010 and there’s only five of us. It’s a testament to how hard we all work.

“You don’t win anything physical, it’s more for the prestige. We’ll put it on our website though and we’re hoping it will lift our profile and bring in new business. A lot of pubs use Rate Beer to find good breweries.”

Buxton Brewery regularly brews 20 different bottled and cask beers including stouts, Indian pale ales and porters, as well as special reserves which are aged in barrels for nine to 12 months.

At present, the company creates around 40,000 pints a month, but is in the process of moving to the old bakery across the road, that is three times larger than their current premises.

Once fully operational, they hope to brew up to 125,000 pints a month.

The brewery exports its craft beer to 14 countries on five continents.

Rate Beer, a worldwide consumer website dedicated to craft beer, is similar to Trip Adviser for beer lovers.

The top five brewers in the world were ranked, while the remainder, including Buxton Brewery were not given a ranking. Last year, Buxton was placed in 52nd position.
