Buxton woman defied order

A BUXTON woman who defied a restraining order imposed for offences against her ex-husband has been spared jail.

Linda Gill, 61, entered Norman Gill’s home in Church View Cottages, Green Lane, Buxton, on December 2 and went upstairs to his bedroom.

And she phoned him in breach of the order which was imposed by High Peak magistrates on July 30.

Magistrates at Chesterfield heard that she received a suspended prison sentence last July for offences of assault and damage.

Gill, of Marion Court, Sherwood Road, Buxton, admitted breaching a restraining order and a suspended sentence order.

Sarah Haslam, prosecuting, said: “Mr Gill says he is fed-up of the whole situation and wants her to leave him alone. He says she has phoned him every day since the court hearing in July.”

He did not initially report the problem to police and changed his phone number. She then turned up at his house uninvited.

The court heard that Gill had not committed any offences until last year and did not make any threats or use any violence during the breaches.

Kirsten Collings, for Gill, said: “She accepts she has an alcohol problem and would embrace any help to deal with it.

“She is living in warden-controlled accommodation and has support from her sister.”

Deputy District Judge Andrew Davison imposed an 18-month probation supervision order, including a six-month alcohol treatment programme, with £105 costs.

He said: “Had you caused or threatened any violence you would have had to go to custody.

“If you breach the order again you will go to custody.

“It’s extremely rare for a lady of 61 and married to the same person for 32 years to be in court. It’s clearly a very sad case.”
