Calling all dog lovers in the Dales

Charity Guide Dogs is appealing for people that can provide temporary accommodation for trainee dogs for a period of around 12 weeks.

Boarders must be willing to have the trainee guide dog in their home, feed and groom it on a daily basis and be willing to follow guidelines from the dog’s trainer. Boarders also need a safe and secure garden or yard for the pooch.

Dave Clough of Guide Dogs said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to have the benefits of caring for a dog without the full-time long term responsibility. It’s also very rewarding to be involved in the upbringing and training of a guide dog, which will one day provide freedom and independence to a blind or partially-sighted person.”

The dog would normally be collected around 9am and returned between 4.30pm weekdays but volunteers would be required to look after the dog on weekends.

The charity will supply basic equipment and covers all veterinary and feeding expenses.
