Calls to tackle five-minute rule

TRAFFIC wardens are being urged to clampdown on illegal parking in a part of Matlock.

Matlock Town Council received a letter about parking problems on the corner of Wellington Street and Rutland Street- that drivers were leaving their vehicles illegally on the yellow-lined roadside.

But while parking attendants are patrolling the area, it is suggested they are allowing a five-minute observation gap before issuing a ticket- allowing drivers to stop temporarily before heading off.

Cllr David Barker: “It’s been a problem for many years and it’s making the area very dangerous. It happens every day.

“This five-minute thing is rubbish as far as I’m concerned.”
