Months of organisation will come to a head this weekend as the carnival returns to Matlock after years.

As part of Matlock Festival a carnival will be held on Hall Leys Park on Saturday and Sunday.

Between 10am and 4pm each day there will be host of activities and attractions for all the community to enjoy.

Lisa McTighe, carnival weekend organiser, said: “Bringing back Matlock Carnival is one of the aims of the festival and within a few years we’d like to have the procession back on the road.

“We urge the local community to come and visit Hall Leys Park during the weekend and enjoy all the activities on offer.

“Matlock Festival and the carnival weekend need the locals’ support and to help bring back the community spirit of the past.”

Rob Short, chairman of Matlock Town Team, said: “The team behind Matlock Festival have done an amazing job bringing back what will be an amazing carnival weekend.

“The range of activities and entertainment is brilliant and its great the town has an event to be proud of.

“Having the support from Maazi Restaurants and Matlock Mercury is what’s needed and shows the local businesses care about the town.”

On Saturday, there will be an arts and crafts fair with 40 stalls for members of the public to browse through.

Activities on offer will include a climbing wall, ‘have a go’ archery with Dales Bowmen as well as circus skills.

On Sunday, the Food and Drinks Festival will feature 50 stalls full of mouth watering produce, as well as remote control drift cars and Stormtroopers and Chewbacca from 501st UK Garrison.

Throughout both Saturday and Sunday there will be a fun fair and a bouncy castle with inflatables.
