Celebrating 50 years of trams at Crich

There were celebrations at Crich Tramway Village on Monday as it marked 50 years since the first horse-drawn trams were on site. The Duke of Gloucester even paid a visit.

To celebrate this achievement the Museum hosted a Royal visitor and the Museums Patron HRH the Duke of Gloucester who enjoyed a tour of the Museum on Monday, July 8, as well as a ride on the horse drawn tram and even a drive of the recently acquired Boat Car from Blackpool.

Visitors were also treated to a re-enactment of the occasion by having a ride on the original 1874 horse drawn tram throughout the day.

Curator Laura Waters said ‘The Museum has come so far since it operated its first tram 50 years ago, we look forward to the achievements to come over next 50 years’

The horse tram will also operate on Saturday and Sunday 20th/21st July during our annual Edwardian Weekend (a premier event).
