Charity ball for Chesterfield pair needs '˜fairy godmother'

Georgia White, 23, of Rockcliff Road, Chesterfield, will be hosting a fairy-tale themed masquerade ball at Sheffield City Hall on Saturday, October 1, for 450 people.

The ball is in aid of two of her best friends, Melissa Marshall, 24, and Samantha McNally, 22, who were last year diagnosed with cancer and Crohn’s disease within a week of each other.

Georgia said: “The event is going to be on a very big scale this year - there will be a red carpet entrance, a three course meal, tea and coffee after the meal and a variety of entertainment from start to finish, including magicians, illusionist, dancers, singers, and lots more.

“We are also going to have speakers from Cancer Research UK and Crohn’s and Colitis UK and all the money raised will be split between these two charities.

“Both of my friends had their illnesses for a long time before they knew so we also want to raise awareness of the conditions so people get diagnosed as soon as possible.”

Georgia ran her first charity event in April last year and raised more than £5,000.

However, this time she is hoping to double that figure.

“It is the most amazing feeling when it all comes together. Last year it was just an idea in my head and then it’s actually happening.”

However, this year’s event is on such a big scale she is looking for a sponsor to help fund it.

“Even though a lot of people help for free, there is still a lot to pay for. So I am looking for a business or someone sponsor the event so then more money can go to the charities,” said Georgia.
