A children’s charity is asking people across Derbyshire to spring-clean their wardrobes to raise vital funds for the most disadvantaged children in the county.
Barnardo’s, which has a number of stores across Derbyshire from Branston to Alfreton, is launching its annual campaign to encourage donations.
Popular television actress and Barnardo’s supporter, Jo Joyner, is championing the charity’s appeal for clothing, footwear and accessories such as jewellery, belts and handbags.
Jo is known for her roles in No Angels and EastEnders and more recently Ordinary Lies, Trying Again and Marley’s Ghosts.
She said: “I am really happy to be supporting Barnardo’s spring retail campaign this year.
“I enjoy a ‘spring clear out’ and regularly visit my local Barnardo’s store and donate belongings that I no longer use.
“Instead of throwing things away, we can give them to Barnardo’s to raise cash to help the most disadvantaged children across Derbyshire.
“It really will make a difference and make you feel good too!”
Lynn Perry, regional director of Barnardo’s said: “Each year we are overwhelmed by the volume and quality of donations kind-hearted people bring to our shops.
“With their continued support we can ensure that the funds raised will help transform the lives of those children who desperately need our help and support.”
Last year 240,000 children, young people and families were supported by Barnardo’s through more than 960 services across the UK, such as young carers, care leavers, foster carers and adoptive parents, training and skills or parenting classes.
