A MATLOCK man has been arrested by police on suspicion of stealing money from charity.

On Wednesday, November 7 at around 2pm, CCTV footage appeared to show a man enter the Imperial Rooms in Matlock and place a collection pot for the Poppy Appeal under his jacket.

The footage then showed the man quickly leave the building with the collection hidden in his coat.

Upon noticing the theft, security guards called the police who believed they recognised the suspected thief and arrested a man at his home address.

A police spokesman confirmed: “We have arrested a 38-year-old man on suspicion of theft and possession of a controlled substance.”
