Chesterfield arts charity inspires elderly to tell life story

Elderly members of the Winster Court Friday Club have been getting creative to document their extraordinary lives.

Chesterfield arts charity Junction Arts have organised a project called My Wonderful Life, which they have been rolling out this week.

For the project, members of the group each made a handmade book that they filled with photographs and memories of their ordinary yet extra-ordinary lives.

The beautiful journals contained archive documents, photographs and inspiring stories.

Jane Wells, of Junction Arts, said: “Great conversation ensued, two of the ladies talked about working in the Midland Jam Preserving Factory and another remembered time spent working in the Royal Air Force answering telephones throughout the night and sewing officers’ buttons for extra money.

“Junction Arts take great pleasure in delivering these workshops and care workers at the homes we’ve worked at are amazed at the positive effect it has on the elderly people.”
